Artistic Seniors Share their work with 6th graders....

Shireen's focus topic has led to wonderful work in the visual arts & exhibits this semester...this post journals a recent visit to my 6th grade class...

her topic,...

'In order to create an authentic museum experience, as defined in my first semester paper, must curatorial practices overlap with educational aims and programs of a special art exhibit. Why, or why not?'

Jodie visited another 6th grade class for a day of art history, analysis and 'dance?'

'What is the nature of the divergence between art critics and the general educated audience’s interpretation of Matisse’s work?'

analyze 2 versions of this famous
painting by Matisse.

In this short video, Jodie assists the 6th graders as

they wrestle with the concept of 'harmony' as it does and

does not reveal itself through this painting.

25th Annual 5th grade 'Creating an Original Opera' huge success!!!!

Worlds of Preparation go into
the 5th grade Opera, now
in its 25th year!!!!

Painting the sets, everything by hand...

Set desgin, script, music all created and performed by the 5th grade!

Amazing creative work from the early stages, managing, advertising all the way to the finish line!

Voices, acting, and music were wonderful...

A more somber moment as students grieve their friend's pain and
wrestle with difficult issues...

 What a great way to celebrate 25 years with the opera at Dwight-Englewood.  Hard to believe that it was 15 years ago when I visited the newly built Bede Building and was introduced to Adam Murphy, a 5th grader at the time and writer for his class opera...I must admit that the obvious wisdom of the 'guru' seated before the computer far exceeded his age.  It is so great to see such an amazing tradition continue!

Congrats to everyone!  Parents, teachers, students, writers, musicians, technicians, actors and everyone who had a heart, hand or head involved in this years...'Creating an Original Opera!'

PROJECT OURWAY 2011

Project Ourway 2011, a student run, produced, acted, written, spoken,
performed, drawn, painted, sculpted, drummed, sung and enjoyed on
a rainy Saturday in April...

We enjoyed this creative video while letting the plaster dry well before trying to remove them from our hands....

Josh Williams, D-E Class of 2002, first solo show in NYC!!!!



Josh Williams 02' hosted a huge crowd last night at his first solo exhibit
in NYC.  His newest body of work has been dubbed contemporary
POP art and has received much positive acclaim!



 

 After graduating from D-E, where he still holds a special place in our hearts! (and the D-E bball all-time point record!), Josh studied at the prestigious School of Visual Arts in Manhattan.

All of us back in Swartley are so proud of Josh's amazing, powerful and visually striking work but also the great support of his fellow D-E classmates & friends, in particular Matt Bader & Jared White who put the exhibit and reception together.
